You will get pure shit for 3k if you want a 2 door. Your better off renting trailer towbar or dolly on old car with wore out parts. I almost died towing my 66 back on dolly. You may look into a early 70s impala or a bop b body from yhe 60s. I could have picked up a 63 delta 88 with the 403. Ran and drove only had one spot of rust on the front fender dog leg. It needed painted and interior reworked. Could have got gor just under 3k.

Like I said, we have a friend with a junkyard full of 60s/70s cars but I don't think he'll let the Impala go cheap (or at all, I think he's planning to do that one up for himself).

No towing scares me, I can handle it. As long as the wheel bearings and tires hold I can flat-tow. I'll replace the wheel bearings in the junkyard if I need to, and hopefully I can bolt on wheels that I already have with good tires on them.

Thats not what im getting at rick. Old suspension on towbar and dolly gets were you cant control it. You can rent trailer for next to nothing. My 66 caught gust of wind dog wagged across 4 lanes of traffic and almost flipped my truck at 60 mph. A impala is heavier than my gs. Started to jack knife and flipped truck gunned it and it straightend up. It went all over the road for a 1/4 mi when it did this.

Can rent trailer for $80, maybe it'd be worth it.

flat tows beautifully, towed it home when some previous mechanic's sloppy work left a piece of distributor rotor metal debris in the distributor cap and it randomly worked itself into a position to short shit out. Didn't even bolt the tow bar to the car, used ratchet straps. I'm thinking of bolting it to a pressure treated 4x4 or some chunky steel (bumper/frame rail from S10, perhaps) and pre-drilling the 4x4 to bolt to the bumper brackets, then just unbolt car's bumper before towing car. That way, no abuse to bumper, but secure attachment.

Though trailer might be too heavy unless car is decently light. on a deckover was pretty much the maximum I ought to tow, back when the truck WASN'T rotted to shit...a car trailer with a lead sled on it might be pushing it now.

I doubt it is only 400 heavier than so your only 6k all together. Truck should do 7.5k easy.

Dolly is better than bar. If only going a few miles a bar would be ok. Idk if I would down interstate for 7 hours though. Never again for me.

7.5k puts me way over GCWR and feels quite heavy. I guessed 8k for the Schlitz on the deckover and I was confident but knew I was pushing it.

Wouldn't do interstate.

I think my gray truck was rated at 7.5k my trailer is only 1800 lbs. A deck over just about 2.5k. You would be about equal with regular trailer.

My truck says 8,000 in the owners manual but when I compare actual weight on a scale to actual GCWR that's impossible...my GCWR is 12,000. For something like that I'd need to bring a few hundred pounds worth of tools so it's not like I can with an empty truck.
