Mine came with 1.0.x firmware. I can update the firmware to run a different rooter and get the features for that one or stick with the old firmware. Of course, then there's always the question of preferring the newer firmware itself.

Anyway I think there are still multiple options even if yours came preloaded with 1.2.x.

yeah mine has 1.2.1 already

NookManager looks nicest to me. Gonna use it to root and NTGapps to install the google apps. Saw a kernel that adjusts the eink refresh too, might try that at some point.

nook will be decent tapatalk AOT hoar

pics will suck a bit tho

i haz root and ReLaunch launcher. ReLaunch is fairly nice. It's a home launcher made for eReaders. Has an app drawer, recent apps, wifi/battery info, a file browser, etc.

NookManager was super easy. Write image to sd card, turn on nook w/ sd card in and it automatically boots to it. Tap the buttons to make a backup (took about 10-15 mins) and then root. GApps were easy to install also.

Already has the app included to reassign the 4 side buttons and the N button. So far it all works. Only part giving me trouble is the market. It worked the first time but now it updated itself. The instructions say to install MarketSearch using the web interface and it will force it onto the nook but the nook doesn't show up as a device on the play store.

Will mess with it more later, about to gtfo.
