I just spent 6 hours in the server room because our entire campus went down.

The first couple hours were spent on the phone with SonicWall. 20 minutes for them to figure out that yes, we had renewed our support contract. 20 minutes on hold. The rest, talking to Hajji or whatever the fuck his name is in India. He gave up and told me to completely rebuild our configuration from scratch. We paid an expert contractor many hours to do that, how the fuck am I going to do it in one night?

Another couple hours were spent fucking with it, at which point I discovered that one network seemed to be causing the failure. Eventually I found out that one host was DOSing the whole fucking thing. The rest of the time was spent trying to isolate the portion of the network with the offending host.

Tomorrow I'll wait to find out who I unplugged, when they call me...

The whole fucking point of having an incredibly expensive and complicated pair of redundant SonicWall rackmount appliances is that this sort of thing should be fucking impossible. This is exactly what they're supposed to protect against.
