89 here. Guess I'm a cheap ass.

Flex fuel is a higher octane but it burns faster. Plus I have not seen it any where near here. |

the octane is pointless in a stock engine. you may lose 50 miles or so to tank. that's about what i did running in every fillup. (twice a week) it does more good in keeping your engine clean and emitting wayyyyyyyyyy fewer smog-forming emissions. |

No one really believe me when I try and talk to them about higher octane gas makes the vehicle run better. They just say its more expensive. 26 gallon tank 2.45 for regular = 63.7 2.80 for surpreme = 72.8 Is 11 dollars going to hurt that bad? |
For every 6 fill ups you get 1 free.
|
its teh economy making me pump teh cheap stuff brah :roflmao: my friend was all like :whoa: ZOMFG why are you putting 93 on it? i was like wtf does it matter? your giving me 20 bucks for gas not 20 gallons lol
|
Same detergents in all octanes of gas. More expensive does not equal cleaner.
If you can run e85, that will clean it up right quick. Quote:

honestly chadler, not busting your minute balls, but higher octane fuel accomplishes nothing in a stock engine that doesnt require it. modern technology allows engines to run just as efficiently on 87 as they would on 93. the only applications it's needed are high rpm, higher compression engines. |
houston has some pretty differing prices between octanes

:shake: nice truck brah. white ftw iirc SC has major subsidies on it, thats why so many stations have it. i cant find it anywhere up in ky. :/ |
Higher compression only, and even then they automatically adjust so you don't lose fuel economy, just power.
Higher octane gas has less energy in it (the additives that raise octane do not have energy in them, so more of the additive dilutes the fuel), so if your engine isn't designed for it you lose a tiny amount of fuel economy and power. |

i did notice that some timing adjustments did require higher octane on me old ford 289 though. but it be WAY old technology

Meh, my truck is only nice for me. If you saw it up close you'd shit yourself. It's got dings and rusty spots and it's dirty as hell and I never clean or vacuum or wash or anything.
My fuel pump loses system pressure so I have to turn it to "On" for a couple seconds and listen for the fuel pump to stop before I crank it. There's various other little oddities. But, at 193,000 miles it has been very good to me and I still love it. ---------- Post added at 03:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:57 PM ---------- Oh, and it has a NEW WINDSHIELD! :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: :big_banana_Dance: |

I do get attached to my stuff. If I like something, I don't want a new one.
