FWIW, posted sonic nomz in nomz thread...

i usually just buy stuff locally. the online part is sketchy because some online retailers think where i live is in chicago and no one ships ammo from online sources there. easy to just buy local. sometimes walmart, other times local gunshop, etc. plus, i feel like i am supporting local businesses if i go to the gunshop. if its at home, its walmart. here in murray its the gunshop. walmart has better deals on mega-packs of 40, but no 17HMR if i take that. walmart can lack in personal protection stuff, eg pow-r-balls/JHPs/etc.

range stuff = usually stick with some form of FMJ, blazer brass, winchester white box (WWB), etc

personal protection = for my XD40sc its winchester 180gr JHP...for my LCP its hornady 90gr FTX

EDIT: I havent gone shooting since Mid-Sept due to time, classes, and $$$$. College is a priority right now, so funds are tight. By the time, it would take to get there, gas money, and ammunition...its close to $50-100 for me. I am thinking this summer though, I am planning on purchasing 4-5 stripped AR lowers just to have.

That sucks. I keep Hornady Tap for personal protection. I usually use Blazer Brass or the like for paper punching. Just trying to build up a little extra backstock so I can go when I want. Pistol ammo has been scarce again here for awhile and the local shops as much as I want to help them just charge too much.

I only settled on the FTX because I couldn't find 380 anywhere...this was only a couple months ago. When I start making them bucks, an online order will be placed for 500-1000 rounds of 380.

Then again, a S&W 340PD will be replacing the LCP. :imo A 340PD is a .357/.38, thus it'll be like purchasing two guns at once.

People talk about knockdown power and such when it comes to personal protection...blah blah...yeah it helps, but it's all about shot placement too. There have been numerous occassions where 22s have killed more than 9x19s.

The 9x19, 38, 38+P, 40S&W, 45ACP battle will always be there, so just pick something that is comfortable to shoot and with access to ammunition.

My next handgun besides the 340PD will be a 1911 of some sort. Not sure other than that right, maybe a Springfield in 45ACP or EMP in 40...who knows...:roflshrug: Gotta have dreams somewhere.

That is an everlasting debate with people. I got .45 because well, I just wanted a .45 :shrug: I agree with you shot placement is everything when it comes to defending yourself. Yeah you can have a large cal. handgun but damn if you cant hit the broadside of a barn well your SOL unless you can throw it hard enough at them when done to do some sort of damage.

I would like to have my .45 and add a .38 and either a .40 or 9mm and I'll be happy. Then again, its like anything else, you are never content and always want more or different :rofl2:

the only way you are going to accurately to measure force is with a meter. i do not know how ammo manufacturers do it, to be honest. just because you say 451 then 400. how do you know? there are a lot of different factors to the process. for example distance, weight, temperature, pressure, weather, etc are all going to have a piece in the force. some may be insignificant but they are going to be present.

if 451 is perfect conditions okay, if 400 is same conditions obviously something was different. sooooo many variables to play. also, where did the bullet hit a ballistics dummy vs steel plate, etc...
