Except on my unplowed steep driveway, I've been driving safely and effectively in 2wd, including when the roads haven't been plowed yet.

Have you tried googling the model number and "XP"? I found a guide for mine and for my friends. Both had Vista and required some really random drivers and shit that weren't easy to find. The guides helped A LOT

Yeah, I found some advice for putting XP on it, but it just hasn't gone smoothly. I got XP running, then after I installed chipset drivers it wouldn't boot. Then Vista got fucked up too. I have to deliver it in a few hours and my only saving grace is that I took hard drive images of both Vista and XP before it blew up. I just need to fix the MBR, get one of the Windows booting, and re-image it.

Once I get to that point, I'm still going to have a dilemma...XP refused to install on the second partition when it didn't have the bootable flag set, and whichever partition has the bootable flag set is C:, so Vista won't work if it thinks it's on D:. I dunno, Windows does some funky stuff with drive letters sometimes so I hope I can just make it all work. On my netbook, whichever partition I boot from becomes C:.

I have an hour and a half to finish this XP/Vista dual boot. Neither will boot. I'm watching as the XP install slowly crawls along...it's killing me.

I suspect that drivers are the main problem. This is a brand new computer that was designed specifically for Vista. There's plenty of stuff that doesn't have XP drivers. Notably, the SATA system is quite incompatible with XP, though there are drivers that can kinda make it work.

I get XP installed and it works on the first boot but after that it won't boot; it gets stuck at the XP splash screen.

XP is hopeless. I'm using the system restore stuff to put Vista back. I'll dress up Vista like XP as much as possible and see about getting his apps running.

He really had his heart set on not using Vista, but 7 is too expensive and XP won't run.

Computers designed specifically for Vista are real asshats

On Friday I did another unsupported XP downgrade on an HP, no problem.
