Can you elaborate on what you said about the t-case not being 1:1?

Let me rephrase that.

You don't have a direct 1:1 output because the transmission output shaft turns the transfercase, which in turn powers BOTH the front and rear axle. It's damn close to 1:1, but not exactly.

Now as far as the front axle ratio being different than the rear, the ONLY time I'd ever see that happening is say for instance GM puts their normal 10-bolt 41-tooth/10-tooth axle in the rear and their supplier (Dana) makes an off the shelf axle that's the "same" ratio in a sense, but has 45 teeth on the ring and 11 on the pinion. That ratio would come out to 4.0909090909.....etc. Close enough to call it a "4.10:1." There is no mechanical reason for it to be different, but it is because it's what's available to use and the minor difference is negligible so hence it being used. There is NO possible way to have a vehicle with truly different ratios front to rear and have it drive any way close to normal when in 4-wheel drive. That is unless you had 28" tires on the front and 38s out back, which is probably the setup this know-it-all has. :D

stonehenge 03-10-2010 04:47 PM

SarkOzy 03-10-2010 04:49 PM

hungryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. going to bamf og pizza place for lunch :turbohump:

theholycow 03-10-2010 04:49 PM

I live in the country, but because it's RI there's always a local pizza joint that will deliver pizza, pasta, sandwiches, burgers, etc...

SarkOzy 03-10-2010 04:50 PM

lol no one delivers to the island. 20 miles must be too far. :jester:

theholycow 03-10-2010 04:52 PM

20 miles? In RI, you can possibly be 20 miles from everything else....but not a pizza joint. You might have to drive 20 miles for gas, a fire station, or a convenience store, but in RI you'll never have to drive more than 7 miles for pizza.

lulz there is 1 grocery store and a gas station within 18 miles of me. there is no such thing as running to BK for a whopper. :jester:

hell from Leslie's house i can WALK to:

hellMart
Fazoli's (NOM)
Big Boy
Wendy's
DQ
Little Cesar's
Papa John's
Subway
McDonald's
OG mexi-joint

theholycow 03-10-2010 04:57 PM

13 miles to BK, not quite as bad, but pretty bad for tiny heavily populated RI.

SarkOzy 03-10-2010 04:57 PM

living in teh middle of nowhere FTW :shake:

theholycow 03-10-2010 04:58 PM

:word: I chose a place as far out in the sticks as I could find while not being too far from my job and my wife's parents (since she likes to visit and hates to drive).

---------- Post added at 10:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:58 AM ----------

If it wasn't for her I'd be even further out, too.

SarkOzy 03-10-2010 05:01 PM

there is talk of building a new bridge over the sound and to the north end of the island. DNFW. i like the little causeway with its 1-lane wooden bridge. keeps the tourist from Myrtle Hell away.

Chadster08 03-10-2010 05:01 PM

Looks like I'll have a new hu this weekend. Now I just need to get my friend to help me install it lol

SarkOzy 03-10-2010 05:02 PM

I'll never understand why people throw out their factory radios for aftermarket ones that, aside from a few cases, look and perform worse than oem.

theholycow 03-10-2010 05:07 PM

Who's throwing out their OEM GM HU? Please send it to me!

SarkOzy 03-10-2010 05:08 PM

theholycow 03-10-2010 05:09 PM

Oh, and they do it for the same reason that they do most other stuff: Because it's not about gaining any real functionality.

---------- Post added at 11:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 AM ----------

Chad, it's not complicated to install. The hardest part is doing a neat and dependable job with custom connections, but if you're using a pre-fabricated wiring harness then I could do it in 5 minutes (in an NBS).

SarkOzy 03-10-2010 05:09 PM

chadler. it's from a gmt900 though. wont work.
