I've never had my cellphone lose signal when there's a power outage.

Landlines keep working when power's out, as long as you have a basic passive corded phone attached. My landline is from my cable company and their lines don't work that way but they installed a battery backed up interface so I can make calls with the power out.

I saw Matt cruising around in his Alero when I was in DFW.

Thought it looked like him, but the guy had hair so I didnt think it was him.

After talking to him on Facebook, it was him :roflmao:

"I love it," she said. "It's quieter and (there's) not much traffic anymore."

Rich Taylor is one of her neighbors. Garcia's new found peace and quiet is a result of years of his hard work.

"It's time for the change," Taylor said.

Taylor was part of a group that spearheaded an effort to silence the trains that roll through this neighborhood, tucked between

Downtown Houston, Memorial Park, and the Houston Heights.

"You can expect to hear a lot less train noise," said Taylor, on the eve of the Washington Quiet Zone's official existence.

"When the train would come by and blow, oh my God, so irritating," Garcia said.

On Thursday, the train's horns will stop sounding, thanks to Taylor's group and a little known city program that's available to all neighborhoods with a train tracks.

Realtors are already jumping on board, using the "quiet zone" status to market brand new town homes that sit near the tracks.

For them, it's a money making opportunity.

For Taylor, it's a payoff after years of hard work.

"I think we're all gonna sleep a little better," Taylor said.

But for Garcia, it's something much more simple, something most of us take for granted.

"I can actually hear my television now," she said.
