You were following too close. You gain nothing following that close. Anything with a load should have enough room that if anything falls off it will hit the ground before it hits your car, and preferably further so you don't have to swerve to avoid stuff.
If I can't use a normal lane change to avoid road debris, I aim straight for it. I haven't broken anything yet. My Grand Am once ran over a roadkill deer because I was half-asleep. Just before I hit it I woke up and worried that the car wouldn't clear it. I was amazed when it did. |
maybe i wasnt clear enough, the wood bounced off the ground a couple times...never said I was right behind him either, dont assume...if I was that close, I wouldve just ran over the wood or it wouldve landed on my hood. I had a good amount of space between the two of us....enough to see it bounce twice into the air. The truck was like an f250 or hd gm with a lil flatbed, not a big semi....and it was empty....no load. The truck passed me on the left, merged into right lane, couple seconds later, I see chunk of wood in the air in front of me. I cant remember vividly if it actually fell off the bed or if he kicked it up, I just saw it on its first downward decent, bounced windshield high, came down and when it hit the ground the second time is when I hit my brakes....probably 2 car lengths ahead of me? Ive ran over road kill and stuff, just held on...this shit was scary seeing a 2-3ft chunk of wood coming right at your face...feel free to drive straight into that, Id rather break a car that aint mine than my face :uhoh:

6 hour naps ftl. ima have to chower in like 30 degree weather or something
|
Meh, I'd still go straight for it. If I thought it would come through the windshield, I'd duck. I don't care about breaking my car or anyone else's, but after what I've seen I'm totally against emergency evasive maneuvers.
If there wasn't enough distance for you to calmly make a normal lane change when you saw the wood airborne behind the truck, you were too close to avoid debris dropped/kicked up by that truck. |

I'm at work. I really don't feel like being here today. I think it's time for me to take a vacation.

I agree. I used all my days this year on honeymoon and other trips. My boss is basically taking the rest of the year off starting today :rofl2:
Bastard! I need a fulltime job! I dont like it here anymore. |

im thinking of taking some time off during teh summer :hmm: as long as i have some cash saved up
---------- Post added at 08:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:36 AM ---------- thc spread some of that vacation time around imo |
The tough part for me taking time off is that I work at a college. I need to be here on days that I have class anyway, and when there's no class during breaks I need to be here to do work that can only be done when students and faculty are gone.
Basically, if I want to use up my vacation without neglecting my work and without wasting an hour commute, I have to take a couple days off per week every week. |
it ftl. that sucks. vacation be needed
my co worker who was out for a while is back too |
If I wasn't taking classes my vacation scheduling would be easier. Someday I'll probably take some online classes, and then I can take a lot of vacations.
