Mcafee is just like Nrotton. They have been around since the beginning and were decent when there was no competition, but they're just awful now. As I say, they do keep the demand for my work up, so I'm thankful for that.

In my recent tests, Sophos, Microsoft Security Essentials, AVG, Avira, Avast, and BitDefender were decent for protecting against the worst viruses. Trend did not do well. I wasn't aware that their stuff sucks, though...I'm very thankful for HijackThis and I assumed their other stuff should be decent.

HijackThis is quite nice. We use Sophos here and I usually recommend AVG to peeps to use at home since the free version is actually pretty nice.

I just had one bad experience with TrendMicro that made me hate it. My friend had a Gateway laptop with Vista on it and we wiped it to install XP. We installed all the drivers and everything was working great, nothing was broken, no missing drivers, etc. Then we installed his antivirus (TrendMicro). :blah: It caused the machine to freeze after running for about 2 minutes. At first we thought it was freezing or that his bluetooth keyboard was the issue or the mouse. So when we unplugged the mouse, it would run for like 3-5 minuts before freezing (wtf). Then we uninstalled TrendMicro (through safe mode) and it ran like a dream. Stupid POS :jester:

2005_Silverado 10-29-2009 08:47 PM

so if bawz isn't around, its ok to take 2hr lanshes right?

theholycow 10-29-2009 08:47 PM

Damn. Well, reviewing my notes, Trend's antivirus was one of the worst, actually. It allowed a virus to totally break Windows. Even Panda and Kaspersky allowed viruses to infect deeply but didn't let them break Windows.

Cez★ 10-29-2009 08:48 PM

sure, as long as you can dew it. i eat :secret: and go 1 hour early
