Mundane =/= enjoyment. If mundane activities were fun without alcohol/drugs they wouldn't be mundane.

Bear in mind my views on alcohol/drinking have been particularly influenced by several events from my childhood until now. Watching your father nearly drink himself to death and losing 3 close friends and a grandmother to drunk drivers will really piss you off.

My father had a major drinking problem when I was a little kid. It ruined my parents' marriage and probably their finances. He quit cold-turkey when I was just old enough to notice that Budweiser was not on the dinner table anymore. He did not teach me to fear or love alcohol, he merely taught me what it did to him. Result: I drink in moderation sometimes, and usually not at all.
