it wasn't the only thing it just went with supper

theholycow 03-04-2010 03:29 AM

I was like wow, it's smoking more than usual and running worse, what's the deal. So I drove it up to the backyard and opened the hood, only to be confronted by fire. If I hadn't been so worried about the gas tank, I'd have stopped to get video of it. Fire is cool.

Instead I ran into the house faster than I've ran in years, found a fire extinguisher, came back and put it out.

Ewok 03-04-2010 03:32 AM

I set some bushes on fire at my old house when I first bought it I was cooking out and it was a charcoal grille and I didn't have any lighter fluid so I used ether and caught the can on fire I freaked out threw the can it blew up in the bushes and proceded to burn like a mofo

WTF is a spark plug tube? I feel like I should know this.

Chance 03-04-2010 03:38 AM

Doesn't it just cover the spark plugs?

for imports where the plugs set down in the heads

theholycow 03-04-2010 03:40 AM

Apparently a leaky valve cover gasket can get oil all in the spark plug tubes. I'm having a little trouble visualizing it and google images isn't doing the job.

So it's more common on imports, and I may never have seen it because I've mostly only looked at domestics?

Ewok 03-04-2010 03:41 AM

as far as I know I have only seen them on imports

theholycow 03-04-2010 03:46 AM

Ogood. I don't feel so dumb now.

---------- Post added at 09:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:41 PM ----------

So the spark plug is recessed inside the tube, which goes down to the head where the spark plug screws into the head like it would in a sane car?

Ewok 03-04-2010 03:47 AM

Imagine your valve cover being a rectangle then with 3 holes in the top down in those holes is where the plugs go into the head in those holes are the tubes so being that they are through the valve cover if it's leaking there is a chance of oil getting in them

theholycow 03-04-2010 03:53 AM

Ok, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure. Thank you. :shake:

---------- Post added at 09:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:50 PM ----------

So, why do they put the spark plugs through the valve cover instead of alongside it like domestics do?

Cez★ 03-04-2010 03:56 AM

got to give my speech tomorrow =\

my guess is location of the ignition point would be directly on top of the piston instead of off to the side like most domestics

theholycow 03-04-2010 04:00 AM

Cool. I was close. I was thinking it was to keep the plug centered overhead but I didn't think of why.

Ewok 03-04-2010 04:02 AM

I'm out guys
