Took day off work today to finally do the big brake job on

. Didn't get started until after lunch, but at least I did useful stuff all morning.

Got one drum brake done. Fucking miracle, I say. Fuck drum brakes. Need sixteen arms and either anti-grav or place the car on its side.

Had all the parts sitting in a box for months, except a wheel cylinder and hose I took out to go to parts store and find matching flare nuts. Hose was back in the box, but the fucking wheel cylinder is MIA. I ransacked my fucking house looking for it. Gotta buy another.

Oh, and when I was struggling to get the drums off I cracked one near the center. Guess I gotta buy fucking drums now. Fuck. I punched out the little holes so I can turn the adjuster to get stuck drums off next time.

is now jacked up with wheels off, brake drums off, one side done (except for adjustment) and the other side disassembled. Guess I'm driving the truck for a couple days.

disk are about the same when there rusted on too. had to heat dads blazer, pb blast, and sledge it for about a hour last time i did them. i do the same with drums. still drums on the rear are much better than disk. every disk brake ive had on the back has warped cracked broke died killed the caliper and all that shit.

My drum wasn't stuck on from rust...

is somehow both the oldest and least rusty vehicle I've ever worked on. It was stuck because the shoes have worn a ridge in it where it overlaps past them, as is bound to happen with any drum brake system after 75,000 miles. If I could have turned the adjuster then they would have come right off.

Of course, drum-in-hat rear disc brakes can suffer from the same issue, and (despite having brand fucking new rotors) my truck's rear disc rotors are the same way. The first 1/8" is easy, then it catches on the shoes.

I prefer drums on the rear for braking, just not for working on them. If I've got to have fucking drum brakes either way (for the parking brake), why have disc brakes on the outside of them and then have cheesy shoes inside for a lame parking brake that doesn't work well?

Had 401K meeting today the rep was a Indian lady red dot type not feather type anyway she had a thick accent and was very enthusiastic about money and I had to keep taking drinks to cover me laughing
