Eris be rooted but when I get X..... no can haz root

will be missed. I hope it will become rooted eventually but I no haz much hope cuz it has an encrypted bootloader like the Milestone.

Milestone = Droid w/ Encrypted Bootloader. It has been rooted but no recovery so can't backup/restore/put rom/kernels/etc.

Pretty much what Jay said. Imagine a stock android phone is like being a member on a forum. You can change your profile, upload some pics, etc. There is a lot you can do. Rooting is like being a mod/admin. There is MORE shit you can do. You can modify things and do things that normal members can't. Then if you go farther and install a recovery image, then it is like being the server guy. You can reinstall the entire operating system, install different versions with different features, overclock the hardware, make backups of the system and restore them, etc.

That is the best way I can think of to describe it.

Rofl read the actual review and there is very little negative. I've never really liked engadget, I'm surprised the inc got an 8, they tend to be apple fanboys I think

Ok well I installed the UD Froyo eXtreme 3.0, must say I like it a lot comes with several different ringtone stock here is a screen "capture" of mine (just finished).

Update Edit:

Been messing with UDFE 3.0 and it has it's own ROM mgr in it. It also has a built in utility that you can uninstall stock apps. Liking it so far, will get some more snap shots of the options tomorrow.
