Pull a .ISO image, then use a program that can mount the .ISO as a drive letter.
What version of Windows is on the netbook? I can't remember what programs I use for this job. Alternative: If the program is not too bitchy, this is easier: Copy the entire CD to a folder, then use the subst command at a command prompt to make the folder have a drive letter.

My favorite program to mount ISOs is Daemon Tools. It is free, doesn't have much bloat, is easy to use, and does the job very well. Just put the ISO somewhere he won't delete it then install daemon tools (requires a restart), create a virtual drive with that image, done.

Can you explain the subst command a little better if you've got the time. I'll give that a shot first, since it's the easiest solution. Quote:

Daemon Tools is too big and overcooked. Also, I have had some problem with something related to it recently (though I can't remember what...yeah, that's a big help...).
C:\>subst k: c:\copiedFolder That command will mount c:\copiedFolder as the K: drive. K: and c:\copiedFolder will both function, and will each be a separate way to access the same files. The program I use for mounting ISOs is this: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/620/x..._burning_them/ It's tiny, fast, clean, and perfectly functional. Its interface is mildly annoying the first couple times you use it. I know there's a more modern program that's almost as small/clean and a little easier to use. A CD burning program like Roxio Easy CD Creator or Sonic RecordNow might have the ability to pull the CD into an ISO, if you don't already have a tool you prefer.

Re: IT Thread
Is ie or chrome in offline mode? Look in file/edit menus for Offline Mode or Work Offline or something.

Re: IT Thread
If you haz virus, that could definitely have something to do with it. Maybe download/run malware bytes and see if it finds anything.
