Negatory. Will indicate emissions tests not ready and you'll hafta drive it until it tests again.

You need a smoke test. Proper way is hook up a smoke machine with gas cap adapter or through evap line, pressurize, and look for where smoke comes out. More likely way to DIY might be hook up shop vac to filler neck and blow cigar smoke at it until you see where it gets sucked in...be careful with a lit cigar around a leaky fuel system though!

Since yours is mostly visual inspection, you might get away with it. I can't get away with clearing a CEL because they plug it in for emissions testing and it will fail instantly

Not sure. I'd have to look at mine. Usually the sticker is signed and u get a paper with inspection results. I think the cops really only care that its up to date so the shit on the sticker besides the big numbers don't matter

Yeah you'd think it would be in their system. I know our emission status is in the system. After getting emissions tested, we don't even have to turn any paperwork in because it goes through on their end.

But all our emissions places are state-run, not random shops like in TX/CA and prob other places.

In RI our stickers have barcodes and the VIN printed, so a hot sticker is only good at a glance.
