$280 more to do the timing chain and related hardware kit. Its only a 65k engine but 280 isn't that bad so I might just have them do it while they're in there.

Timing chain for what? Was it stretched? Chains usually last a long time.

I doubt it was stretched. One valve was cracked so they're fixing that. Unless the cracked valve could have caused it to stretch then maybe I don't need to replace it. Hmm. $280, no labor since its already apart and needs to be out back together.

If your timing chain set has any plastic gears then a bent valve could have stripped one, but it won't stretch the chain. Chain stretch is a long term wear thing, not actually stretching, just wearing the pins smaller and holes into oblong shapes. It can't happen from a catastrophic event.

Hmm so I could save a little by telling them to use my existing chain. Gonna call him Monday morning so I'll think about it

The cheapest kit (Chain(2), Guide(2), Tensioner(2), Tensioner Arm(2); Without Sprockets) on RA is $140 shipped. More if I want it in less than a week. Hmm

He's probably paying $75 more than Rockauto price though.

I say do it. While your in there, may as well do it all at once. Not sure how Ford is, but gm, you always go with OEM parts. The aftermarket shit sucks when it comes to timing components
