Google searches now use "HTTPS" SSL encryption

Have you noticed your Google searches are now automatically redirected to https from http? I have. I figured it was just a reaction to the dumb trend of users wanting everything in https, not knowing what https does and thinking it will make the photo of them drunk more secure on facebook. Still, I got curious.

To find out why, I...yup...googled it! I found this:

In short: When you click a Google search result on an http results page, the site you arrive at knows what keywords you used to search. With https, the site knows you came from Google but does not know what you searched for.

I am not a fan of the use of SEO for marketing purposes, so this is good news.

It will still be available for a price. This is a power play by Google being presented as a security adjustment.

Anything that pisses off commercial SEO folks sounds good to me. If Google will then charge marketers to get that info, it will still reduce the amount of that info getting out, and the ones paying for it will be trying hard to use it effectively.
