she was even more crazy after we broke up. fairly certain she was neglected as a child or something. or whole family was kind of crazy though. shes married now and has a kid. i feel bad for that guy.

Seriously not sure how you are still married Rick you don't have kids to keep you with your wife and all you ever do when marriage is mentioned is tell everyone how bad it is and how they should avoid it.

I know what you're saying. Sometimes the obvious isn't so obvious though, and there are myriad underlying reasons for what we perceive as a "problem" likely to encounter. At one point I thought that, but my views have changed. Also I'll say my best friends have all been female, since practically forever, I had two female roommates in college and the overwhelming majority of my 23 first cousins (no we aren't mormon lol) are women.............so maybe I just don't notice it anymore. Lol |

Yes, not obvious, myriad underlying reasons...exactly.
Juan, my wife and I went through a rough patch that really forced me to grow and open my eyes. At that time I studied heavily. I looked into how others' relationships work and discovered patterns. You know how I learn about cars now, to the point that I went from "I can change my oil" to "I can change my Buick to have a manual transmission"? Same type of effort but with much, much higher stakes and much more volume of said effort. We've both grown and improved and we have a strong, decently healthy marriage now (except for a few sticking points, like the kids thing). I don't want to not be married to her. I could if it came to that; if the shit were to hit the fan I could walk away...but that would suck.

Well see then why do you automatically tell everyone that marriage is the devil?
Me and my wife got through our differences and whatnot in the beginning. We dated seriously, no drama, and moved in together before getting engaged. Worked out all the kinks and had a short rough patch with a little break up, and then everything has been great since. Then I asked her to marry me. So marriage isn't evil if you have the right person and you both are sure that you're compatible and can learn to overlook the others shortcomings, work together on some things, have your own time for other things. Marrying someone within the first couple years of knowing them can be bad and in my opinion marrying someone before living with them is asking for trouble.

a very wise, but financially bound man once told me that if a woman truly loves you she'll sign a prenup. his ex wife did neither of these things.

Why dont people understand the concept behind personal sized food items? I went and bought a small bottle of ranch for my salads yesterday and put it in the mini fridge with my name on it. Sure enough douche down the hall come up to me today and ask "hey can I have some of that ranch for my salad?" Im like meh wahtever not expecting him to flood his salad. FML. I know TL;DR

Don't get me wrong. I don't think marriage is inherently bad. I do think everyone assumes they should get married, without actually having a good/real reason to do so. As such, I challenge that assumption. On top of that, if they can't work through a few grizzled old souls telling them all the reasons why they shouldn't get married then they probably don't have what it takes to be part of a healthy marriage.
---------- Post added at 03:08 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:07 PM ---------- And if they can't listen and seriously consider what folks like me say about marriage then they probably don't have what it takes to be part of a healthy marriage too, but they'll get married anyway.

Car is pitching a tent?
Pink lettering on driving school sign indicates a woman driving teacher? No evidence of the wreck other than the damage to the car?
