cao, why this foos home directory mapping as read only when he has full permissions and ownership? even when I go to the permissions on his folder and look at "Effective Permissions" for his username, it shows everything checked.

You checked share permissions and filesystem permissions?

Also look through local security policies on both boxen, local group policies, and of course domain group policies.

Forgot to check that because we aren't using "shares", we have a namespace setup at the root of all their crap and then they map \\server\namespace\users\derpington

But yeah, namespace/share permissions were set to read for Users.

My boss likes to use the simple file sharing wizard. That thing changes share and filesystem permissions at the same time. It annoys me because IMO share permissions should be all open and security should be done at the filesystem level...
