Most of the people who get that error are already rooted but if you don't have the Superuser app then you aren't yet. Hmm.

Did it get stuck on "Waiting for root" again? If so, boot it up and go into setiings > about phone.
Tell me what you have for Baseband version, Android version, Kernel version, and Build number. You might have a newer version that needs a different program. Every place I look for the Desire has a different method to root.  damn phone

Ok i think i found it. Your version of HBOOT is too high, cant be rootd with unrevoked.
