If it doesn't handle Vista then it won't handle 7.

didn't mean to try 7, sounds like XP is the best choice. Or a Linux build but then people be confused.

If it were for me I would have put a small linux distro on it. I found an all in one driver tool so setting xp go only took a couple minutes.

That doesn't say what you're actually creating but being your first assignment I doubt it will be hard.

If you're just writing a Hello World, then the executable is the "whole app".

They didn't have you get a book?
The Java classes I took had us buy some really useful books, happiest I've ever been spending the money. Math, english, etc books can eat a dicks.

Yeah, programming books are often worth keeping...though possibly easier to "buy" than other books.

Yeah at the time I didn't mind buying it but I'm sure I could have "bought" it instead.

Those 8-bit video game cartridge style CPUs didn't hang around long. Too bad, they seemed gimmicky but were really pleasant to work with.

I had one, I forget the speed. Maybe around 500-600mhz. Was easier to install than normal processors. Not that normal ones are hard but cartridge ftw

We just replace projectors when they get like that.
Office from server sounds like app-V/Remote Desktop Virtualization Host.

TBH I don't care for the term except when it's used for things which were done locally until after the term came into use. Basically, to me, that mainly means Office applications and files, corporate email hosting, business stuff like that. Putting your photos on facebook doesn't count. Banking or shopping online don't count. These things have been done online for 15 years now.
Even where I think it's appropriate and convenient I still think it's annoying.

banking/shopping shouldnt count but i'd count uploading photos and whatnot because you are actually storing something "in the cloud" and same with the office stuff where you do things that used to be local but are now "in the cloud"
so mostly agree
