Cao, with CX you need to go to the website and create a folder and then create a folder with the same name using the desktop client. Your shit will then sync. They might have fixed that since I used it though.

I always need more storage. Data is gaseous; it expands to fill the container you put it in. But seriously, I have to limit what I sync to the space I have.

Today I've quadrupled my Dropbox space to 8GB and added 10.3GB of CX. Hell yeah. I can sync all kinds of stuff I don't need to sync now.

Been using Dropbox for ages, so much better than using hard drives and USB memory sticks and all that bsns. I use Evernote for all my notes and shiz too.

Evernote is pure win. I keep instructions in there for tasks I have to do all the time but always forget how to. I can put in screenshots, formatting, etc. I also have multiple notebooks for Work, Home, etc with lists of shit I want to do to the cars, music I want to acquire, etc.

Me too! Thing is in my work (part time graphic designer part time iOS developer) I got a LOT of different computers, iMac, Windows 7 laptop, iPhone, iPad, and for a while I had an Android tablet, and so much of my stuff I have to do cross-system. It's fantastic to be able to grab what I was working on earlier on the Mac while I'm out in town Windowsing it up or on the iPad, through Dropbox or Evernote. I also use XMarks to sync my bookmarks between Safari on Mac and Chrome on Windows. I love the idea of it, never losing any stuff because of online backup and everything. Chromebooks are cool and all, just IMO you need offline access to your stuff! Starting to get a bit of a cloud-sync fetish.

I'm using the CX client on multiple computers, but don't worry, I'm only accessing the website on one.

Evernote is cool but it wasn't a good fit for me. I used to use Opera's built-in notes along with Opera synchronization. As well, my Opera installations are portable and live on my Dropbox, so I could monkey with the notes.adr file if necessary.

However, Opera wasn't doing the job for me; I wanted standalone notes software. I ended up with Mempad, of course portable and stored on my Dropbox. I wish its interface would act like Opera's, but it's good enough.

I use Evernote for some of my class notes. The classes that are mostly online, I can create notes in evernote, link to android application. always have notes with me.

Yep I have my notes on my phone, work pc, home, laptops, and even if i am at a users computer and forgot everything in my office, i can get it from their browser.

I'm actually using syncsms and drop box to get my text to my tablet. And by using that I've gotten hooked on sharing things between my phone, tablet and or net book. Pretty BAMF service

Just got an idea!

There's plenty of cloud storage, much of which can be mounted as a drive letter, but lacking a desktop client. Skydrive, for example, gives you 25GB free and it is possible to mount as a drive letter. Then there's gmaildrive (a program that presents your gmail storage as a drive letter), Wuala, etc.

Even with stuff like Dropbox the client doesn't always work the way I want. For example, I keep my portable Opera on my Dropbox. Opera stores millions of little files that are convenient but not necessary, and they can cause a lot of sync overhead. Further, it writes some files constantly, so overaggressive syncing can have too much overhead.

How about I mount non-desktop-syncing cloud storage, then use a local syncing tool as my desktop client? It could run on whatever schedule I want, it could have exclusions for temp files and such, etc. DIY desktop client, easily customized, loads of free storage, and I could even encapsulate it in some kind of encrypted file system if I wanted!

My go-to sync tool is Karen's Replicator but I might consider something like SyncToy.

That ought to take care of encrypting in a manner compatible with dropbox/cx/etc.

Anyway, the other idea (regardless of encryption) isn't a pain in the ass, I just babbled because I was thinking out loud. Here it is, barely any more complex than Dropbox:
1. Mount cloud storage as local drive.
2. Use another folder on actual local storage.
3. Use automatic file synchronization tool to sync your local storage with your mounted cloud storage.

How does their client currently work?

I just signed up with your referral and, although the site says "desktop client", all they offer are clients for web browsers and mobile. Is there a desktop client that I'm not seeing?
