The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative (WHTI) final rules require travelers to present a passport or other approved secure document denoting citizenship and identity for all travel into the United States. WHTI establishes document requirements for travelers entering the United States who were previously exempt, including citizens of the U.S., Canada and Bermuda.

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA) required the departments of Homeland Security and State to develop and implement a plan to require all travelers—U.S. citizens and foreign nationals—to present a passport or other secure document or combination of documents that denote identity and citizenships when entering or re-entering the United States.

When we went in Nov of last year we were able to come back using our birth certificates and drivers licenses but I'm not sure if you can do that anymore.

wan, Ive been going to mexi with just a b/c but because dhs is being very chill about having passports cuz they know the area is very low income. they did ask me why I didnt have a pp and "recommended" I get one before my next visit out of US. They wont deny you entry if you have your b/c and .gov issued ID but they will probably grill you for a bit, maybe send you to secondary

the immigration ociffer smelled alcohol when we tried to drive across the border. he though it was me but I was sick that day and hadnt dranked anything, it was my cousin and our buddy that were wasted. I was pulled out of the truck, questioned, then told to get back in the truck and drive into secondary....I pull out and just let my foot off the brake to drive into secondary. All of a sudden they yell at me "SLOOWW!!!!!! STOOOOOOOOP!" I then get like 4-5 agents rush the truck and I get dragged out the truck Thats when they cuffed me and I went off on the fat fuck. CHP showed up a few mins later and he checked me out, said I was good to go.
