Beta Rollout Schedule

* Phase 1 (Private invites) - Begins March 15. Eligible players were contacted via email
* Phase 2 (PlayStation Plus) - Begins March 22. Members will join Phase 1 participants
* Phase 3 (Killzone 3 vouchers) - Begins March 29. You can redeem your voucher included with KZ3 to play with Phase 1 and 2 players
* Phase 4 (Open to everyone) - Begins April 5. The beta will be free and downloadable from PSN
* Beta Ends - April 13

A: No, there isn’t a party system available for the beta.

A: There is no time limit, but we will limit what games modes are available each day. Check the schedule above for the current week.

Q: Does the beta support 3D, PlayStation Move and Sharp Shooter?
A: Yes, it supports all three!

Q: How many people were invited to the private beta?
A: We're not announcing specifics; but several thousand from around the world.

Q: I want to be in the private beta, how do I get in?
A: Invitees are already playing. We've also done a number of giveaways on Zipper's Official Twitter page and right here on the forums.

Q: I've seen your beta giveaways, why are you only giving out keys for North American PSN accounts?

A: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is handling its own SOCOM: Special Forces beta program. Though European players are amongst the North American players, all beta entries from that region are handled by SCEE. Zipper does not have EU beta keys to give away, sorry.

Q: What modes and game-types are available for play?
A: As you can see in our schedule above, all four game-types are available n the beta: Bomb Squad, Last Defense, Suppression and Uplink. Additionally, all four game types will have “Standard” and “Classic” versions and we also have custom game-types that you'll also see on launch day (Community Day Classic, Last Defense Run 'n Gun, Scrum, Sniper Alley).

Q: Which maps can we play?
A: There are two to choose from – Port Authority and Assault and Battery. Port Authority is a naval port filled with equipment and shipping containers, while Assault and Battery is what remains of a WWII-era coastal fort that has since been abandoned.

Q: If I’m in the private beta, will I continue to play into the next phase?
A: Yes. Once you’re in the beta, you’re in it and not getting out.

Q: Will any of my stats or character progression carry over to the final game?
A: No. We want everyone to be on a level playing field on launch day (think of your early practice as your carry-over)

Hacker Group Anonymous Declare War On Sony

Sony has gained much attention, controversy and exposure ever since it took the PlayStation 3′s first hackers, George Hotz and fail0verflow, to court. Some have joined Geohot’s battle against Sony and spent their time working on finding a way to thwart the PS3′s security ever since Sony’s 3.60 firmware update. Now, a group that were behind the hacking of the entire Gawker network (Kotaku’s parent company), Amazon as well as Mastercard has declared a war on Sony due to their dealings with Hotz.

A statement released by the group, who are named Anonymous said:

Congratulations, Sony. You now have now received the undivided attention of Anonymous. Your recent legal action against our follow hackers, Geohot and Graf_Chokolo, has not only alarmed us, it has been deemed wholly unforgivable.”

You have now abused the judicial system in an attempt to censor information on how your products work. You have victimised your own customers merely for possessing and sharing information, and continue to target every person who seeks this information. In doing so you have violated the privacy of thousands. This is the information they were willing to teach the world for free. The very same information you wish to suppress for sake of corporate greed and complete control of the users.

Now you will experience the wrath of Anonymous. You saw a hornets nest, and stuck your p*nises in it. You must face the consequences of your actions, Anonymous style.

Sony Enlists DDoS Defense Firm to Combat Hackers

Earlier in the week, a part of the hacking collective Anonymous declared war on Sony and brought down several of the company’s sites as well as the PlayStation Network. By using a form of a DDoS attack, the group temporarily crippled Sony’s online infrastructure, but now Sony is fighting back, recruiting a specialist firm that has successfully thwarted Anonymous’ attempts.

Anti-DDoS specialists, Prolexic Technologies were brought on by Sony to stop the mass attack of the site’s servers:
