Beef Jerky Time!
What do you like? I gotta admit, I like those Slim Jim style beef stick/cheese combo packs. It's not really jerky but it's sold next to the jerky and is also shelf-stable meat that you eat as a snack. Brand doesn't matter, they seem to be all the same, except of course the ones that are pepperoni and cheese instead of beef and cheee. Had Bacon Jerky recently. Package looked like Beggin Strips for humans. Inside, it looked like someone fried up a bunch of bacon and stuck it in a sack. It tasted like it too. Nice. Got a bag of Perky Jerky. It's beef jerky with caffeine. Haven't had any yet. Had Jack Link's Big Dipper, a pack with some BBQ sauce and beef sticks. Meh. I like beef jerky chew. It comes in a can like chewing tobacco, and is finely shredded. Nom. Dollar Tree sells a brand that's ok in 1oz bags. Teriyaki seems to be the better flavor among their selection. Can't find a picture or remember brand name.

Not a huge fan of the slim-jim style ones you posted first. I'll nom them but would rather have actual jerky.
To me, most of the bagged jerky tastes the same (with the exception of different flavors). Jack Links is good (original, peppered, and teriyaki). I also like these sticks: But legit jerky is better than all of the above it just tastes more "real". They just take meat, salt/pepper it, dehydrate it, and sell it to you. So nom. Have had it from a couple meat markets here and some spicy ones that my tio brought from Mexico.

I usually grab one from here if I'm out.
However my friends mother makes Jerky and it is quite awesome. We are working a deal of coffee beans by the lb for jerky I really want to try making it on my own and packaging it up, much healthier than alot of other snack crap out there. |

My dad used to make caribou jerky like this. He'd run it through the grinder and add seasonings as required then put a sausage nozzle on grinder that he flattened out to correct shape and ran meat through again. He'd smoke it instead of dehydrating in an old fridge he converted to smoker. Was NOM! Biggest difference doing it this way is the texture. It's not as chewy or stringy. Easier to eat.
