7zip FTW...though for basic usage, Windows has zip functionality built-in, called "Compressed folder".
Always prefer 64 bit if your OS is 64. Right-click "This PC" and click Properties, the info screen will tell you if 64.
Normally I would advise getting the portable edition but 7zip's best feature is Explorer integration that makes portability somewhat less meaningful.
