The Miata shot was with my phone (MT3G w/ Android). More or less, the camera on it just rocks, and the lighting happened to be perfect...
With shots like below, its all camera settings. That was w/ the 30D (or 40D before I sold it, can't remember). I adjust to a smaller aperture, which causes the shutter speed to drop. I try to hit something around F/5.6-F/10 ~ 1/30-1/60 (even 1/15 sometimes) ~ ISO 100... I am pretty good at holding steady shots @ 1/15+, no IS, so I adjust depending on speed. At 70mph, I can get away with F8 ~ 1/30'ish ~ ISO100 to pull a crisp vehicle and motion blurred background...
