Dead cyl can be a whole host of things I've missed whether or not you've had a compression test done ....could be broken piston ring stuck valve cracked piston ...none of which is an easy fix .....my opinion is to find low milage used engine and swap ..less time to do that and no worries as to whether the problem is fixed or not
