The gum in a pack of baseball cards is usually not very good. There's no need for it. Nobody buys it for the gum and I imagine that most people throw the gum away. It's a vestigial leftover from an earlier era where it was more relevant.
Well, does SNL need a musical guest? Does anyone care? How is it relevant to the rest of the show?
