That jack is under the OEM-specified jack point.

BillyJeanKing 11-13-2009 01:58 AM

they cranked it so far that it crumpled up

I guess they thought the car would eventually start to lift off the ground

Ewok 11-13-2009 02:00 AM

looks like they had it out to far not under the pinch weld but under the cladding itself.

never let a woman change a flat :read:

Thats pretty ball3r

theholycow 11-13-2009 04:22 PM

Why is that lame pinch weld the OEM-specified jack point anyway? Shouldn't they have you jack something beefy?

For changing tires when not using the OEM jack, I jack under the A-arm or similar, something right next to the wheel. That's a lot less jacking since it just lifts the wheel instead of lifting the whole car and letting the wheel drop.

Cez★ 11-13-2009 04:24 PM

i jack the frame up

JayBo 11-13-2009 04:33 PM

if on front, I lift a-arm. If on rear. the whole rearend gets lifted. ON the ford I can lift the front and rear w 2 jacks and have all 4 wheels off the ground.
Solid Axle FTW!

Btw, putting the 39.5 boggers back on for the weekend

theholycow 11-13-2009 04:41 PM

Jay, how do you lift the whole rear end?

JayBo 11-13-2009 04:44 PM

lift it under the chunk.

theholycow 11-13-2009 04:44 PM

"Chunk"?

Cez★ 11-13-2009 04:45 PM

pumkin?

JayBo 11-13-2009 04:45 PM

err...
I put the jack under the differential housing.

chevyrado14 11-13-2009 04:55 PM

i do the same on my truck when i rotate the tires expect i have 2 jack stands on the front frame

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant. I have heard of this plenty but I don't think I've ever actually seen it. I worry that it could mess up the diff or axle but if it's common practice then obviously it doesn't.

Cez★ 11-13-2009 05:00 PM

i thought thats how you always do it for the rear

No way man. When I worked at the service station/tire place thats just about the ONLY way we'd lift the rear of a vehicle if possible. Even on semi trucks.

theholycow 11-13-2009 05:05 PM

:head3: Awesome. That'll save me some time and effort from now on.

Is it ok to run the truck in drive like that? For example, if you for some reason need to let the wheels spin while off the ground...

Cez★ 11-13-2009 05:06 PM

yes

I've never had a problem doing it. Just chock the front wheels very very very well :rofl2:

2005_Silverado 11-13-2009 05:19 PM

Id put the axle down on jack stands if I wanted to let the tires spin...they arent too stable when you lift them from the center of the axle....they can tip over.

stonehenge 11-13-2009 08:48 PM

the Nizzan jack has to go on the pinch weld since the jack is made gheylike to only go there. Works like a champ though, none of that door-foldy action like above :jester:

theholycow 11-13-2009 09:35 PM

Yeah, a lot of OEM spare tire jacks are made to only fit there.

Cez★ 11-13-2009 09:37 PM

i remember my friend got a flat on his honda and we used his crappy oem jack. as i was lifting it the fucking thing got sideways and teh car fell :roflmao: :headpalm:
